The lake Titicaca is a 8,400 square kilometer oasis on an arid high plain, which is just an hour drive from La Paz. Authorities blaming global warming, the lake that sustains about 2.6 million people is now evaporating.
According to Navy Capt. Jorge Ernesto Espinoza, the South America's largest lake is now receding by 2 to 3 centimeters a week.
According to Environment Minister Rene Orellana, Bolivia will be needing $1 billion over the next seven years for the construction of a reservoir to ensure adequate supply of water.
