ETA eyed in Brazil

Spanish intelligence reports, published in Madrid, have said that members of the Basque terrorist group ETA have been conducting financial and propaganda activities in Bolivia with the knowledge of President Evo Morales.

Bolivian President opposes natural gas cartel

Bolivian President Evo Morales, leader of the Latin American country owning South America's second largest gas reserves, says he strongly opposes the formation of a gas cartel along the lines of OPEC.

Bolivia flaunts Coca exporting treaty

Despite the restrictions imposed by the U.N. International Narcotics Control Board, it says President Morales plan to violate a 1961 international anti-drug agreement signed by both Bolivia and Venezuela, by exporting Coca leaves.

The variety of housing construction in Bolivia

In a country where many builders rely on the availability of natural local materials, the appearance of houses can vary tremendously from region to region. Because it is so readily available, mud for bricks, stucco and roofing tile is widely used. So too is natural stone for walls and fences, and reeds for thatching.

US airlifts relief supplies to flood victims

The U.S. Southern Command here has joined hands with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the U.S. Navy’s Project Handclasp in airlifting more than $30,000 of emergency relief supplies to victims of recent devastating flooding in eastern Bolivia.

Pilot Farm Ready to Export Blueberries

In a pilot project a farm of 10 hectares was utilized to grow blueberries. Cimar Rocha, director of the project was pleased and stated that this project could be successfully repeated in other zones. At present the project is working in Tarija, Boliva and due to the lack of supplies in the Northern hemispher from November to March there is a great potential for blueberry export

One Million Euros For Flood Victims

The European Commission has decided to send 1 million euro dollars to help people and communited in Bolivia. The most acute situation is in Beni where 130,000 in a population of 430,000 have been affected and more than 14,000 people are displaced.

President And Governor Hampering Aid

With the worst flooding in a quarter century the last thing Bolivia needs is infighting between President Evo Morales and the Amazon region's governor. However this is exactly what is causing the aid effort to be hampered. The waters are beginning to recede but 40 percent of Beni is still under water and needs aid delivered to tranded ranches.
